Remove MaCatte

MaCatte Security Center is a rogue antivirus program that uses the template of legitimate Antivirus program McAfee. MaCatte Antivirus Protection 2009 is being hosted on its own website and being promoted to deliver award-winning protection against viruses, spyware, worms and hackers. These mentioned functionalities were found out to be not realistic because MaCatte files installed on computers does not have enough components to perform as such.

Its presence on the computer may cause various annoyances such as Internet browser redirection, frequent pop-up of alert messages and warning from Windows Task Bar and automatically scans a computer and detect threats which are not really present on the system. MaCatte will execute these tactics to convince user to pay for the registered version of it. Remove MaCatte virus on your computer as soon as these instances occur.

What are the Symptoms of MaCatte Security Center Infection?

MaCatte console is very much similar to McAfee’s user interface.


It will modify Windows Registry and add the following entries:

The threat will drop the following malicious files:

  • %Documents and Settings%\All Users\Desktop\msca.lnk
  • %Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\msca\msca.lnk
  • %Program Files%\msca\msc.exe
  • %Program Files%\msca\msca.ico
  • %Program Files%\msca\mstdl.exe
  • %Program Files%\msca\Viruses.dat

How to Remove MaCatte Antivirus Protection 2009 Manually

1. Restart your computer in SafeMode
– After Power-On the computer, just before Windows start, press F8
– From the selections, Select SafeMode

2. Remove Registry entries that the threat added. You MUST BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST.
– Click Start > Run
– Type in the field, regedit
– Navigate and look for the registry entries mentioned above and delete if necessary

3. Delete malicious files that the threat added:
– Base on the given location above, browse and delete the file
– If no location is given, click Start>Search> and search for the file.
– If cannot be deleted, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to access Task Manager, see if the file is running in the process. If it is, select the file and click End Process. Perform file delete again.

4. Scan computer with Antivirus Program
– Update antivirus program
– Scan computer and delete all detected threats.
